Mystery Shopping is a fun way to make money, but a very lonely job because you have to keep secret that you are evaluating the store where you are doing the shop. No co-workers, no socialization except with your scheduler who usually does all transactions vial email, and with the people you interact with at the store where you are trying to hide your identity, not as who you are, but the fact that they are not to suspect that you are there to evaluate their customer service, performance, etc. Some companies encourage you to have lunch for two paid and then I get paid the fee for the shop, but since my husband has his own job, not easy to schedule that in. Lonely is one of the cons to mystery shopping. Next I'll talk about the pros to mystery shopping. Companies will actually pay you to go shopping, purchase goods, return goods, take part in advertising or promotional campaigns, seek information or join mailing lists. You then have to write an evaluation using specific guidelines, remembering to base your findings on factual information whilst keeping to your contractual brief. Most mystery shopping companies pay travel expenses too and the rates of pay are quite good. If the assignment involves a purchase, I also get to keep this and have the expense refunded. "

My first experience with mystery shopping.

Prior to becoming a Mystery Shopper I answered an ad in my local newspaper that said, 'Become a Mystery Shopper and get paid to shop'. I loved to shop! I replied to the ad and could hardly wait for my career to start. I got an application in the mail which led me to believe that I was now applying to a Mystery Shopping Company, but I was to pay a $39.99 fee. That was quite a bit of money 10 years ago. I paid the fee, even though I had that feeling in my gut that something was wrong. 6 weeks later after checking the mail I learned that I had paid $39.99 for a piece of paper with a single Mystery Shopping Company on it with a name and address. There was no money back guarantee and no guarantee that this company would hire me. I filled out a resume and mailed it to the company. My letter came back undeliverable/no such address or business. What I feared the most had happened. I got angry. I cried. Then I put my energy into action. I knew that there must be legitimate companies out there. I spent months, then years doing research, all along working for the companies that I found. I found some free lists of companies; even paid some money to find more, but the lists were usually outdated and scanty. I decided to find as many legitimate companies guaranteed to pay money as I could find. I honestly believe that the e-book I have put together is the BEST MYSTERY SHOPPING e-book on the Internet. At first I just wanted a little extra spending money and a fun way to make money. I liked being my own boss, setting my own hours, bringing people with me on my shops, eating lunch for two, getting my oil changed for free, staying at hotels and more, all paid for by the Mystery Shopping Companies I worked for. As I got more experienced I started to put together a system that worked to increase my income immensely and discovered what I call MEGA MYSTERY SHOPPING! In my e-books I share my secrets of mystery shopping. I worked hard to put these directories together and I have perfected a simple system that any person can do that works. As an experienced Shopper I know what works and I know what Mystery Shopping Companies look for in a shopper. A Mystery Shopper is someone who goes to a restaurant, store, hairdresser, grocery store, amusement park or any other businesses and poses as a customer. For example: in a restaurant, the mystery shopper would sit down, order a meal, pay the bill and leave, just like any customer. The purpose of this visit is to evaluate the overall customer service (actual service, knowledge of staff, cleanliness, etc.) that is being offered in the establishment. The Mystery Shopper writes a report and rates the customer service based on a pre-established set of criteria. When I go Mystery Shopping I schedule my shops in 2 or 3 days instead of spreading them out over the week. All it takes is knowing what the Shopping Company wants and I go to the restaurant or the store and evaluate what I see, my experience. Easy, and I get paid to shop, I get paid to eat and I get a fee on top of that! The days I shop put a whole new meaning to the phrase "Shop til ya drop". I enjoy Mystery Shopping.
